Be Informed About Your Career

JOBS AND INTERVIEW
Statistics has shown that only 19% of Job seekers are employable, (Nigeria as a case study). What is the brain behind this? Most Job seekers have failed to realize the following:
·         that searching for Job is A Job in itself.
·         Having a good knowledge about the organization you are applying to work in is something you must not neglect
·         When invitation for interviews are received, preparation is inevitable.
Interviews may be stressful – even for experienced candidates who have had many successful interviews. The best way to reduce the stress is to be prepared.
The rule is RESEARCH,  REHEARSE,   RELAX     Or     PREPARE,  PRACTISE,  PERFORM
The more prepared you are, the more relaxed and confident you will feel and the better impression you will give.
The balance of power in an interview is more equal than you might think. Just as candidates are not all perfect, neither are interviewers. Not all are highly experienced or highly trained
You would be surprised how many interviewers there are who are not prepared. This may be because interviewing is not a frequent part of their job role, or the interview was passed to them at short notice, or they just haven’t had a chance to prepare because of pressure of work!
Remember that an interview is a two-way process. You are seeking your ideal job; they are seeking their ideal candidate. You are marketing yourself; they are marketing the organisation.
The interviewer wants
You want
to evaluate your skills and professionalism
to understand what the job involves
to establish the relevance of your skills and competencies
Demonstrate that your skills match the job description
to decide whether you would fit in to the organisation
decide whether you want to work with this organisation
to promote the organisation
promote yourself
find out if they can afford you
find out if they will reward you adequately
Research and experience show that the most carefully prepared and conducted interviews are not terribly effective at selecting the correct candidate for the job.
A survey in 1989 among a dozen top UK employers for the Financial Times Career Guide suggested that the chances of finding a good employee through interview was only 3% better than if they had picked a name out of a hat.
And if the interview was conducted by a personnel expert the success rate dropped to 10% below that of picking a name out of a hat!!
Even though that was some years ago, and technology has improved, people are still people, and the likelihood is, that fact still holds true.
Job search techniques change, the labour market changes and job descriptions change, but what more or less stays the same is the job interview.
It’s your chance to sell yourself!
Nathan Azrin, a professor for Psychological Studies, has likened the hiring process as similar to choosing a mate.
As we know this is not a rational process, but an impulsive, irrational and intuitional decision!

Avoiding Fake Job offers

How To Identify And Avoid Job Scams
In today's economy, the available people seeking for job have outgrown the available jobs, this has made many people get to the point of desperation while finding  a job and when a promising job offer seems to appear in their lap, it may be tempting to follow through at all cost. Today, it is also common to work from home particularly online or internet jobs. But while doing this,it is important to be careful. While there may be  legitimate online businesses, or  businesses looking to hire you, there are a few clear steps to detect a job scam. We refer to this as “RED FLAG”

Red Flag 1No Business Name or Contact Address:

Please note, no legitimate firm will advertise for jobs without stating boldly their name, brand identity and possibly their physical contact address. Also, no legitimate firm will ask you to send your resume to the advertiser through a P.O. Box, P.M.B or public e-mail addresses especially when it is not in anyway similar or linked to the company or organisation’s name. This is a serious red flag signaling that it is scam. You just have to be at alert. Firms do not hide their name or addresses rather they use the job adverts to advertise their company, offering you link to their website and providing information on their products and services.

Red Flag 2:  Duplicate Website or Similar Domain Name:
A typical trick employed by scammers these days is duplicating websites of known companies and registering domain names similar to those of these companies. Domain name is the web address of a website e.g. www.cnichng.com  is the domain name of CNICH SOLUTIONS- an ICT  firm in Nigeria. If scammers want to use the cnichng.com for scam, they will register a similar domain name like www.cnich-ng.com and host a duplicate website. This action is aimed at making job seekers believe that they are viewing the websites of the authentic firms therefore believing the job scam.

The scammers will demand your personal details and sometimes even demand for financial details like ATM card number and PIN. Always beware when a job demands your personal and financial details.

Being more analytical will help you observe that the domain names used in registering the sites differ from that of the domain names of the authentic firms. A good practice is to always search the internet for the name of the firm to observe the real domain name of the authentic company. Web search will reveal the domain name of the authentic company since it will rank higher in search engine index, e.g – using google to search for CNICH SOLUTIONS or www.cnichng.com. Another way is by using www.scamchecker.net to verify the validity of such companies.

Red Flag 3Advertising Several Positions:
You may have seen job adverts on the internet or pages of newspapers containing several positions cutting across many disciplines, pls watch carefully.
Companies only engage in massive recruitment when they are just starting operations, expanding or starting a new project. But this is often times rare and mostly embarked on by big corporations.
So when you see advert for massive recruitment, You just have to look for other red flags listed here to confirm if d job is a scam or not.

Red Flag 4:
Beware of the "too good to be true" offers:
Many offers seem legitimate and even have professional looking websites; they offer mouth-watering remuneration, vacation packages and even easy recruitment process. But, put on your thinking cap and remember the old adage, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."
They may not offer a N1, 000,000 a year salary, but may make the offer sound like it is coming from a legitimate business. The recruitment process is often simple and may not require any form of aptitude test or interview. If you can get this job without passing through any process, be suspicious!

Red Flag 5
Always confirm the reliability of the website or web name after you have taken the first 3 Red Flag steps highlighted above. Copy the Website address, Web name or URL, click on the link below and paste it in the space provided. You will get an instant result. To a large extent, this link has a good reputation of finding genuine web organisations. Here is the link
